This afternoon I listened to an episode of the BBC radio programme History's Secret Heroes, narrated by Helena Bonham-Carter, called The Brothers Who Fought Mussolini, about the Cervi family and their actions with the communist partisans against the fascists, leading to the brothers being executed by the authorities in 1943
If you can, listen to the BBC programme, which was fascinating. If you are in the UK it's easy, but elsewhere it might be complicated. Even if you use a VPN with a UK server you may not be able to access BBC Sounds, but here's the link anyway:

If you can't listen to the radio programme, there's a short article on Wikipedia. Here are links to the Gemini Wikipedia portal and the Wikipedia website:

In the UK we think we know about the French resistance, mostly though the role played by the Special Operations Executive in training agents and infiltrating them into occupied France, but I don't think I would be able to have named any Italian resistance heroes until this afternoon. The Cervi brothers were extraordinary and their story deserves to be better known outside of Italy.
